Team Work makes a difference

Teamwork Makes a Difference
By Keith Denoncourt

This was one of the best Team oriented adventures of my life !! Throughout the week we harvested three Trophy Muskox, and many Trophy Lake Trout with Canadian Wildlife Adventures. When a Bull went down, everyone pitched in to help with the recovery ! Teamwork made a huge difference !!

I am incredibly blessed to know many individuals with specialized outdoor skills. The diversity of their strengths is remarkable, and I often find myself learning from those with more experience in specific areas. Together, as a team, we share knowledge and offer the expertise needed to experience life-changing outdoor adventures.

Although I have been an Outdoor Education Instructor for years, I recognize that there are always better ways to do things and more to learn. The more time I spend with outstanding professionals, the more I appreciate the vast specialties within the outdoor world. We all bring unique strengths to the table, and I am beyond excited to work with these individuals and share their expertise with you.

A friend once joked that I was now in competition with outdoor writers. I laughed because competition is not the goal. Instead, we work together to promote respectful interactions with nature and encourage people to get involved in hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors. I value what these experts bring to our community, and I consider them friends first, hunting and fishing partners second. As a team, I am privileged and honored to bring their work to life for you.

The Power of Teamwork in the Outdoors

Aylmer Lake Lodge, in partnership with Canadian Wildlife Adventures, is one of those special places where teamwork shines. I often say that you learn more about a person in one week of fishing or hunting than in a year in an office. Those who cheer you on when you land a big fish are the same ones who will support you when things get tough.

During my last trip up north, everyone celebrated each other's successes. The teamwork was extraordinary. However, the adventure was not without challenges. The harsh northern climate can be unpredictable, and one night, a severe storm hit us hard, delaying our morning departure. Yet, without hesitation or complaints, everyone pitched in, regrouped our gear, and got back on the lake as if nothing had happened.

Kevin McNeil led an outstanding adventure that was truly unforgettable. His motto, "You may come as clients, but you will leave as family!" could not be more accurate.

My Journey with Canadian Wildlife Adventures

When I first began working with Canadian Wildlife Adventures, it was Kevin McNeil’s devotion to his family and commitment to conservation that stood out to me. His northernmost lodge in the Northwest Territories, Aylmer Lake, is a breathtaking location, and I was thrilled about the opportunity to visit. Unfortunately, a serious horseback riding accident prevented me from going that year, and COVID restrictions delayed my trip further.

Looking back, this delay was a blessing. It gave me a full year to recover physically so I could truly enjoy the experience. Kevin’s response was simple: "Do your best in recovery, and let me know your physical limitations. We work as a team." That level of support was invaluable.

I had the opportunity to scout and guide within my safety zone, ensuring that I could still contribute to making other people's adventures come true. Preparation, teamwork, and support are key to success in the outdoors, and I am proud to stay in contact with many past clients, thanking them for allowing me to be part of their journey.

South Africa with Basso Safaris

When I was invited to South Africa with Basso Safaris, I was upfront with Boris, the owner. I explained that I could only manage short hikes of about 6 km due to my past injuries. Not long ago, I relied on a cane and struggled to walk beyond my driveway. Thanks to a dedicated team of doctors, nurses, chiropractors, and physiotherapists, I have come a long way.

Boris and his team offered their full support, ensuring that my experience was both safe and incredible. I hunted from an amazing blind, participated in two spot-and-stalk hunts, and even pursued a Gemsbok. The Basso Safaris team made the recovery process seamless and ensured my adventure was unforgettable. Their teamwork allowed me to push my limits and experience more than I had ever imagined.

- Keith

I was Blessed with additional help on my South African adventure with Basso Safaris. I can not tell you how you how much it meant to me knowing that Ernest and Michael were preparing the meat for the local school and their personal families.

Ernest and Michael were incredible assets. With my physical limitations, there are no words to describe how much I valued there assistance.

Working together to support Conservation Efforts, while still participating in South African adventures to the fullest, Keith and Boris Basso of Basso Safaris proudly stand together promoting Conservation and outstanding adventure opportunities.

Delivering World Class Muskox directly to Brody Teale, with Dave Booth Taxidermy is a fiduciary responsibility that I take great pride in. Kevin and Patti McNeil, with Canadian Wildlife Adventures, have entrusted me as part of their Team, to not only get the required permits, but deliver the Muskox meat to the local Dene Elders, with the remaining meat and memories transported several thousand kms back home.

It was Kevin’s Mcneil’s dedication to his Family that I admire the most. The fact that he gets to share everything from Trophy Muskox to Lake Trout with his Grandchildren is something that I truly admire.

Thank you Sean and Ray ! I have never laughed so hard fishing in all my life . Those memories will last forever ! That trip with Canadian Wildlife Adventures was amazing and thank you for letting me share it with you.

There is a lot of tough, hard work getting everything back to camp, everyone must play a role. The easy past is driving the boat, however the responsibility that comes with it is what makes it a critical link. I am proud to be part of this team.
