Bringing Memories, Truths and Adventures to Life

Bringing Memories, Truths and Adventures to life.

By Keith Denoncourt

For several years, Dave Booth of Dave Booth Taxidermy has played a vital role in supporting wildlife conservation efforts through his incredible taxidermy artistry. His passion for conservation was evident in the stunning pieces he contributed to various wildlife conservation fundraisers. These carefully crafted mounts allowed audiences to see and appreciate the very species they were working to protect.

His dedication helped inspire countless individuals to contribute towards conservation-based projects in Alberta, Canada, raising thousands of dollars to preserve wildlife and their habitats. This legacy of conservation and education continues to this day, with immense pride.

Fur bearing animals are an amazing environmental indicator. Having real furs that the students can touch, feel, and engage with, helps bring awareness to environmental issues, and raise awareness to help find solutions. It helps motivate the students when they can directly connect with what they are trying to protect.

Connecting People to Nature Through Education

As a teacher, one of my most rewarding experiences has been using the Fish and Wildlife Fur Kit to educate students and community members about Alberta’s natural environment. Having the privilege of overseeing one of these kits in our region has allowed me to demonstrate ethical harvesting methods, resource management, and environmental stewardship.

The kit contains all of Alberta’s fur-bearing animals—except for the raccoon—and serves as a hands-on educational tool. Students are actively engaged as they compare the different tanned hides and learn about the laws and regulations designed to protect these species and their ecosystems. By physically interacting with these resources, they gain a deeper understanding of the importance of wildlife conservation.

A Life-Sized Lesson in Bear Safety

One of the most impactful teaching tools ever donated to my local school was a life-sized bear mount, created by Brody Teale and Dave Booth Taxidermy. Brody and our local Fish and Wildlife Officer, Jeremy Lindsey, recognized the importance of Bear Awareness and Bear Safety not only for my Outdoor Education and Conservation classes but for our entire school’s safety plan.

Our school is located near a creek, which serves as a wildlife corridor for several bears every fall. Having a realistic, full-size bear mount inside our school has transformed the way we teach bear safety. Instead of simply discussing the dangers, students can see, touch, and interact with the bear, making the lessons more engaging and impactful. This hands-on approach has significantly enhanced our ability to educate students about the importance of coexisting with wildlife safely.

I am incredibly grateful to Brody and Dave Booth Taxidermy for making my job of protecting both students and wildlife so much easier.

A Leap of Faith: The 2024 South African Adventure

As I look ahead to my 2024 South African display, I know I can trust Brody at Dave Booth Taxidermy to bring this adventure to life. This trip was more than just a hunt—it was a leap of faith. I had the privilege of working alongside some incredible outdoor communicators, experiencing everything from hugging an elephant and visiting a national park to feeding orphans at a local school.

This journey has inspired me to make a difference, and I am already looking forward to returning. I know that Brody’s artistry will capture the spirit of this unforgettable adventure, allowing me to share my experiences with others in a truly meaningful way.

Fur bearing animals are an excellent environmental indicator. Having real furs for the students to touch, feel, and engage with can actively bring awareness to environmental issues, policies or procedures.

This is the only Elk that I have ever harvested. It was over 20 years ago. I can still vividly remember exactly how weird it felt for my knee to be touching the ground while I aimed above my head. This Elk standing high above me in a mountain clearing. It was the first time that I ever had to use horses to take an animal back to the truck. It gave me a whole new appreciation for mountain hunters, the dedication and training that it involves, and most importantly how valued horses are when working in the mountains. Thank you Dave with Dave Booth Taxidermy for allowing me to relive this, and a few other great adventures at my house every day !

Dave Booth was a huge contributor to our local community. His Taxidermy Artwork was featured at several key Wildlife Conservation Fundraisers. It is with great pride that we continue his legacy today with his Grandson Brody Teale.

Without a doubt I am looking forward to Brody Teale, and the entire TEAM of Dave Booth Taxidermy, bringing my very first South African adventure to life !

Basso Safaris in South Africa took care of ALL of the arrangements to get my Mounts shipped to Dave Booth Taxidermy. It is with great anticipation that this great adventure be created !! I have complete Faith in Brody and his team in adding this to my exclusive Dave Booth Taxidermy artwork at home.

Absolutely no meat is ever wasted. The Taxidermy Artwork brings back the memory of not only the adventure, but in making a difference, and hopefully with inspiring others to help out as well. Not only in providing nourishment, but also in creating funds for auxiliary projects.
